Hoy le toca a las agujas. ¿Alguna vez has intentado hacer punto con hilo de lino y agujas metálicas? Vaya maridaje más desafortunado. El lino, que ya es muy resbaloso de por sí, corre como loco por agujas metálicas, que casan mejor con la lana. Lo comprobé al tejer la muestra para el top Azalea. El resultado fue un tejido irregular y una gran decepción. Más adelante, volví a tejer la muestra con agujas de bambú y... ¡Todo cambió!
I strongly believe that right tools are essential for a pleasant knitting experience. Let's talk about needles. Have you ever worked with linen yarn and metallic needles? Not a good couple, because linen yarn is really slippery and metallic needles, too. I tried that with the gauge swatch of Azalea top. The result was an irregular fabric and a big feeling of disappointment. Later, I reknitted the swatch with bamboo needles and everything changed!

Recientemente, había tejido una boina con un par de HiyaHiya cortas de bambú (10 cm - 4'') que compré por error y acabé muy satisfecha con ellas. Así que repetí con la marca.
Azalea tank pattern requires different needles sizes, so I preferred to buy a set of interchangeable bamboo needles. I had just knitted a beret with a pair of HiyaHiya 10 cm (4'') bamboo needles that I bought by mistake. I was so happy with them that I repeated with the brand.

I LOVE bamboo needles, especially in winter, because of their warm touch. So, it has been a pleasure to knit with HiyaHiya needles, although here in Spain we have spent this month in a heat wave ;) They are also soft, light and strong. With good points for lace patterns, and a suitable measurement for a big project (12 cm - 5'').
Los cables son también estupendos. Se conectan por rosca, mi método favorito. Pero lo que más me gusta de ellos es que, a diferencia de otras marcas, giran sobre su propio conector mientras tejes. Así, puedes olvidarte totalmente de los cables y concentrarte mejor en lo que estás trabajando. Otro punto a su favor es que las medidas de los cables vienen escritas en el conector. Me encantan las herramientas que te hacen las cosas más fáciles.
Cables are also remarkable. They have screw-on connections, my favourite method. But what I most like of them is how the cable swivels while you are knitting. You forget them completely, so you can be more concentrated on your work. Another good point to look at is that the measurement of the cables is written on the connector. I love tools that make everything easier.
Acompaña al set un accesorio muy útil: agarradores de goma. La primera vez que compré estas agujas (las cortas), los ignoré del todo porque no sabía para qué servían. Ahora que lo sé, siempre los uso. Una vez que enroscas la aguja al cable, sujetas cada lado con sendos agarradores y aprietas la unión, evitando tocar el bambú. Así te olvidas de que se afloje el cable a mitad de una vuelta.
A very useful accessory are these rubber grips. The first time I bought these neddles (the small ones) it was a kind of mistery for me. I didn't know how to use them. Now, I know, and it is very logical. Once you screw the needle to the cable, you can get them, one for the cable, one for the needle (whithout touching bamboo!!) and tighten the connection. You'll forget problems with loose cables in the middle of a row.
