KNITWEAR DESIGNER: GEORGIE HALLAM / TIKKI
18 ago 2015
Este post está dedicado a Georgie Hallam, también conocida como Tikki, la diseñadora australiana del cardigan que estoy tejiendo actualmente: Lizzie.
This post is about Georgie Hallam, as known as Tikki, the Australian designer of the cardigan that I'm knitting in these days: Lizzie.

Her mother taught her to love crafts from the very begining. Georgie tells that she learnt how to knit almost just watching her. She also made her own designs for her barbie dolls and wrote the patterns in a notebook. Now, Georgie juggles her beautiful family and her own business as a knitwear designer. She self-publishes her own designs since 2008, and also teaches workshops and knitting classes in different Australian yarn shops. There is a high knitting tradition, so she is really successful. How can she make all those things with a family of four? Her working process is really adaptable because knitting is flexible, portable and easy to fix mistakes. So that, you can see Georgie knitting anywhere while takes care of her children. And she also tells that is used to continuous distractions... Do you know what she means, don't you? Besides, she is particularly helpful and active on social media, what is very important for us!
Most of Tikki's designs are for kids, especially girls, and are clean, simple and seamless, with bold colours and DK weight organic yarn. Their patterns are really clear and detailed, so that you can solve your own doubts on the way. With Lizzie pattern, sometimes I feel as if she were reading my mind. I'd recommend them for people who want to improve their knitting skills but still feel insecure. Here is Milo, Tikkie's most popular design, with 9800 projects on Ravelry by the 16th of august, 2015.

Georgie's designs are full of vitality, freshness, and naturalness. Besides it's really significant how she involves her family. By that way, you can see her children and husband modelling her knits. And also, what about the names? My cardigan is called Lizzie as one of Georgie's sisters. She has 4 more sisters so we can find Jane, Miss Jane, Suzanne, Annie, Annabel and Maree patterns. I love that idea, because I have lots of sisters too! Although she is mostly a knitwear designer for kids, we can find some of them for women too, their adult versions I mean. What do you think of wearing the same garment as your daughter (if you had one)? Very nice, isn't it?

Finally I'd like to show you my favourite designs by Tikki. Do you like them? Have you ever knitted any of them? How was your experience? Thank you so much for reading. See you on next Thursday!
